Dawes Young moved to the Adirondacks from New York City in 1979.
My main inspiration has always come from deep inside myself.
Sometimes it's hard to find but over the years I have learned to
surrender to it, and essentially let it do the work for me.
Sometimes I feel like a conduit, I love the feeling of
creativity flowing through, as it massages my insides. It's
very satisfying to do the etchings and book binding that I have been
doing. I do enjoy each equally and have been fortunate to be
able to combine the two crafts.
I studied art at the Art Students League of New York City in the
early 70's. I primarily work in oil, pencil, intaglio printing,
raku and book binding.
I have received first place awards in regional juried art shows
and find great satisfaction that the art I create now hangs only in my
own gallery and of course right here
on the web.
It appears to me now that the art and my life are all the same
and inseparable so I will include links to other areas of our lives as
I really hope to portray the creative process and how we
incorporate that into our lives in these pages, as well as make a
